That depends on you. If you need alot of work then you have to do it all. Run some, pull ups.crunches, leg lifts, weight lifting, run in place, tread machine, etc…

The basics will get you buy. You do not have to be in tip top shape to make it. Only you knows what work is needed. Runs should not exceed 30 minutes of non stop running.

Train every available moment. Push ups, pull ups, run run run….. and be ready for the mental side of it.

Any Marine Corps recruiter can assist you, and will be happy to do it. Have you asked?

Treadmill 1 hour, mix it up on running and walking

    crunches / sit-ups = 100+ (100 is minimum # needed before you leave)

Push-ups = start out at 25 per-set and when your up to 100 per day then try this every other day do 25 then 24 then 23 all the way down til you only do 1 rest 5 – 10 minutes in between each set (no push-ups on day in between)

Pull-ups do as many as you can 4 or 5 sets each day until you can do 25 each set then every other day do 2-3 set to failure

Before you ship out to Boot be able to run 3-5 miles (non-stop) at a 8-9 minute per mile average. BOOT camp will finish the rest all this will do is get you most of the way ready Good Luck.

It may be winter but that wouldn’t stop a Jar head. You need to be at your best in all weather and conditions. Get yourself in the best shape possible because in boot they may have you out in the worse storm you ever saw.
I went in in 1960, it may be different now, but back then out of the 10 of us who were accepted 3 were busted out in the first week. at the end there were 2. We went into advanced and then to survival school and eventually to Recon.
One must be in top shape and stubborn without knowing the words, fail and defeat, to make it. That is why they call us , The Few, The Proud, The Marines! Good luck and thank you!

all you talk about is getting ready for the physical part of boot camp

unless you have been exposed to the military mind set you cannot prepare for how the military mind works. or what your reaction will be to military discipline, procedures, and methods of operation

and unfortunately, the higher your level of education the harder it may be for you to adjust. you need to understand that part of boot camp is breaking you away from the way you lived your life as a civilian. after 8-10 weeks of boot camp you will probably have made a successful transition to the military mind

once i got through boot camp i was able to settle into certain routines that fit with the military life style

if this is the first time you have lived away from your family you may need some time to adjust. if this is the first time you have had to get up early (4 am or earlier) and work late (10 pm sometimes) and were still expected to complete certain daily activities you may need some time to adjust

and for those of you who don’t do or haven’t had to do certain things, the military is a place where you signed a contract to perform without knowing what you were going to perform

Exercise like crazy. Loose your brain.

When you get there you will see what I mean. This is not a disrespectful suggestion.

yeah pretty much what lea lange said

its more stressful on your mind than on your body.. it’s all a big mind game… there really isn’t a way to prepare mentally though

but being in shape before your departure will help tremendously… make sure you have the basics down running, pushups, and situps.. I don’t know what other exercises marines do but i’m pretty sure the list goes on

There are ebooks you can get, about physical and mental prep for Marine boot camp. Like this one here, at http://www.untakenroad.com/marinebootcamp. I bought it last year for my son, and he found it helpful.

  • Dave from Treadmill Reviews says:

You know, whatever you choose to do keep in mind that after a few weeks of boot camp everyone will be on the same level. Working out now will make the first few weeks easier on you but don’t expect to have a leg up on everyone the whole time.
