it's what you make of it. If you accept it for what it is [preparing you to be the best you can be for the Marines] then you will excel and come away with a lot as a much better and more focused person. If you go in negatively and have it in your head it's going to suck, your wish will be granted, and it's going to be a nightmare. The better you look at it now and more physically/mentally prepared you are, the better off you will be.

Read through this writing about boot camp and then watch some of those videos below the writing.
http://futurejarheads.webs.com/usmcbootcampvideos.htm

Lucky for you future Marines that the SSGT in those videos is no longer in the Corps, but there are others like him awaiting you.

Get in shape before you get there. Running 3 miles should be easy for you. Work on your upper body strength. Be able to do 25 or more pull ups. Learn to pay attention. Whatever you do be doing it quickly and to the best of your ability every minute of every day...its only three months, but if you continue that attitude after you get out to the fleet, you will have a successful career. Dont let the slackers who will make fun of your conscienciousness change your attention to detail and good attitude.

Get used to being yelled at loudly and by multiple drill instructors. Learn to remain focused in the face of chaos.

Study, study, study.

Never, ever quit.

finally, be glad i am retired.

Good luck to you.

How I survived boot camp:
-Be in shape before you go-this will save you a lot of heartache later on.
-Expect to play stupid games DI's come up with.
-Expect to be yelled at a lot especially during receiving and the 1st two phases.
-Learn to speak in third person.
-Put out maximum effort in everything you do, quickly and effectively. Speed and intensity is the name of the game.
