I’m just wondering what is given to you and what comes out of your first paycheck. I have also heard that you are given a list of items to purchase and sent to a shop on base? However that may have been for a different branch. Thanks!

You will have to pay for personal grooming and hygiene items. Along with a few small others items, such as shoe shine kits, towels, etc.
All uniforms and uniform accessories will be issued to you. You DO NOT pay for uniforms out of your pocket. They are all paid for out of your Initial Clothing Allowance.
The only uniform items you have to pay for is if you have to replace something destroyed or lost.

you just need to buy personal hygine stuff and any extra uniform gear you might want. Everything you NEED (besides personal stuff) will be provided.

You receive all your clothing/uniforms and boots, shoes, belts, etc etc.

You have to buy all your toiletries and various other things.

You will also be forced to buy things that the platoon needs or may need.

Your initial clothing issue is taken out of your paycheck. And the other stuff is paid for using a debit card unless they have changed this recently.

my son-in-law just finished 5 yrs in the Army. his surprise came
on his first deployment, there was all kinds of stuff he had to pay
for that added up quick. on his 2nd his was prepared financially.
there’s got to be some marines out there that can better answer
    your question.

  • Hugo:

Everything that they issue to you comes out of that first pay check.

Your recruiter has those answers, give him/her a call.

its been a while but if its the same as 8 years ago, when you go in you get a "smart card" its a recruits id and check card that Fort Sill Nation Bank gives you an initial 200 dollars, which will be taken out of you pay, you use this for all personal needs on your if i remember corectly it was a trip to the recruit exchange every 2 weeks. and all uniforms are "issued" they take money out of your pay check, at the end of your 3 months your lucky to walk away with 1500 dollars out of the 3000 you get paid while in boot camp.
