The United States Marine Corps boot camp?
How hard is the USMC boot camp? I know it is tougher than all of the other branches of service. The thing is I just seen a kid who i thought would never ever make through boot camp but he did, is it really that hard if he did it? What is the failure rate of marine corps boot camp?

the best way to describe basic in the USMC to an outsider is: impossible.
Imagine the most physical and mentally challenging event in your life, and go through it every single day, 17 hours a day, for 12 months. You see the things that you have to do, and cant believe anyone could do it.
I dont think that a single recruit that didnt think at least once of simply refusing to train and giving up because it is so hard.
I would say that the people who do not graduate because they refused to train would be under .03%.
In full metal jacket, when they beat the recruit with bars of soap, this is pretty much what the reaction would be in a platoon if one recruit gave up.
watch the first half of Full Metal Jacket I heard that is exactly what it’s like
I DONT KNOW THE FAILURE RATE. BUT I DO KNOW THAT IT IS REALLY HARD , BUT THEY ALSO DONT LET YOU GIVE UP. THEY BREAK YOU DOWN WITH THE NASTIEST THINGS THEY COULD POSSIBLE SAY ABOUT YOU AND THEY BUILD YOU BACK TO THE WAY THEY WANT YOU. DONT BE AFRAID ITS WORTH IT!
its not worth it if you get killed… derrrr. anyway i dont know. probably hard? possible, but hard. who writes in ALL CAPS?!?!?!??
okay
i just graduated from bootcamp ass well
it is hard but not in the way you think
most of boot camp is alot of mental games
yeah sure you do have the physical parts but most of that is easy as can be
even the fat ppl in boot camp said the physical stuff was easy
but it is very difficult some ppl cant take the stress they put on you everyday
i dont know the excat failer rate but we did have 4 guys drop
2 were for injuries
1 was for popping on the piss test
and the other was a bitch and could not handle it
so it really depends on how tough you are mentally
thats the truth
we had this one guy who was really weak we didnt think he would make it
well he did and he gradauted right beside us
so just remember
aslong as some on the espirt de corps they can make it
try it and find out!!! I will tell you this…it is an experience you will never forget.
I’ve used the Full Metal Jacket comparison before. I think they got it right.
Marine recruit training is difficult. It is physically demanding and d*mned near impossible on the mental side. You can endure the physical hardships. The mental harassment is much harder to endure. If you make up your mind that you want to be a Marine you’ll be fine.
One of the thing s that helped me through was a talk with my brother before I went in. He said never let them get to you. Never crack a smile but, laugh at them on the inside. They’re going to give you a hard time about a lot of petty bull sh*t. You have to have the right attittude. You don’t blame the DI for slapping you because your sideburns are 1/8 inch too low. You just accept it and laugh at him on the inside.
It’s not as bad as I thought it would be when I went in on July 2006. It is very important that you prepare physically for boot camp because if you don’t you will have a higher chance of getting injured (ie: getting stress fractures because your body is not prepared for the physical stress) and that can possibly delay your graduation if the injury is severe. When I went in the failure rate (that includes those who didn’t graduate on time but eventually did) was around 15% mainly due to severe injuries, not being able to meet training standards despite given many chances and disciplinary reasons.
Last time I heard a failure rate.. which was four years ago… it was at 28%… and had been there for years. My son’s platoon started with 110 and graduated with 79. Keep in mind, though, that not all those recruits failed out completely. Many are not physically prepared to go and are either bumped to a physical training platoon or get injured and sent to a medical platoon…
It’s not impossible at all. If it’s what you want to do, you’ll quickly learn that your mind has amazing power over what you believe your physical limits are. That’s sort of the point.
If you go remember this- NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE UP!!! You don’t want to know what it’s like living life as a Marine Corps failure. Believe me, it hurts almost every day of my life but life goes on.
