Shipping to Marine Corps boot camp in september, any tips?
I’m going in with an Intel contract, any tips for someone like me who has no military experience at all? Anything that would be useful for not only boot camp, but the Marine Corps in general I would really appreciate . Thanks!

KNOW THIS!!!!!!!!! Your drill instructors all have a role to play, it may seem like chaos at first. and nothing will make sense. But they all have a role. Theres the bulldog, he is the one that will spit in your face when he is 2 in from you yelling. He is absolutly effen CRAZY. He is also the least senior of all the instuctors. Then the teacher, he will buddy up with positive reinforcement but still very stern, he will help you to open your mind. The Prick is the one that you want to like but just cant. He will cause PAIN through what will seem like needless tourture at the time. The the senior Drill instructor. He is the motivator, he will share his experiences with you, tell you stories, give you some letter writing time (maybe) And he will "rescue" you from the work a time or two just to seem cool. The senior will also SCARE THE SHT OUT OF YOU.
But you wont know this is all happening untill the end. Most important thing to know is that it is all a challenge of your mental toughness. Thousands have gone before you, but the ones that make it arent brutes. They can handle the mental games. God bless you, thank you and hang in there boot:)
Be ready to kiss uncle sams ass. semper fi!
move fast and sound off.
like the other person said, move fast, sound off. but also try to stay as motto as possible. know that nothing is personal and just never give up otherwise they will eat you alive.
I just plain busted my ass and never ever talked back. I don’t care how right I was and how wrong the DI was I NEVER talked back. Remember, they really are trying to get you to quit or to disqualify you. Because if you can’t take the pressure of boot camp, how will you react to a combat situation.
It’s been 40 (omg) years since I went to Parris Island and I can still see in my minds eye every single DI I had as if it were yesterday. I can still remember how it felt when they were in your face.
Start working out intensely right now. I don’t care how physically fit you think you are, its nothing compared to what you’ll be when you finish boot camp. Even as a girl I put on 10 lbs of muscle and still lost 3 sizes in just 8 weeks. Push ups, sit ups, pull ups and running…and more running.
When you wonder why your DI thinks you can keep up the pace they set for you remember this. That DI got up early enough to look perfect in his uniform before waking you up. When he is running you into the dirt he’ll be yelling at you at the same time and never sound out of breath. He’ll be up doing reports long after you’ve gone to bed.
But, when you finish boot camp, you will know that you can push yourself beyond whatever limits you thought you had and actually come out the better for it.
When the DI says, SHUT UP or STOW IT. You had better listen. When you get to Edison Range, you will ride, we rout stepped and double time, pay attention when learning how to put dope on your piece which is your rifle. Never call it a gun but a weapon or a piece. Learn that salty naval slang. Never and I mean never bow down to a paratrooper even if it means you have to get your ass kicked by 2 or 3 of them. In Nam we had to get them out of the shit many times but when charlie moved on them he could do it even if the paras out numbered them but when they attacked us we knew that we were out numbered..
The Vietnamese peasants use to say, "When army come buku VC come buku VC. When marine come no VC no VC VC dee mu!" Son you have a lot to ;live up to but the Corps will give you the best training. Semper Fi.
Keep your mouth shut and your nose clean. Be positive all the time and you will do fine, Good Luck.
Don’t even worry about boot camp, its just 3 months of hazing we all have to go through. Worry more about doing well at your MOS school and listening to senior marines when you hit the fleet. Before you even realize it boot camp will be over, you will be at your unit and all your seniors will just be telling you to forget everything you learned there anyways. And learn the term POG
Yes have to agree. You are never right, always wrong no matter what. You are being molded, and what you learn there will prep you for the next step.
When they say move, you move, sit you sit….follow directions and do it right the first time.
