Cameron, its natural to be a little nervous about boot camp training – its going to be the toughest challenge you’ve ever taken on.

The best way to reduce that nervousness is to start preparing now.

Get in shape before you arrive at boot camp – concentrate on running, pull-ups and sit-ups. This will help prepare you for your IST (Initial Strength Test) and its very important that you pass this.

    Good luck.

If you are in good shape now, the PT shouldn’t be to difficult. I was in top shape before boot camp, so the organized PT at boot was motovating and not very difficult at all. But yes they do start easy and build you up.
The difficult physical stuff is the hiking and the quarter deck(IT), the quater deck is where they break you physically and mentally, you will make the walls sweat, and yes it is possible lol . Its non stop physical torture that’s makes you think your going to die. But the Drill Instructors can only quarter deck you for so long at one time, I think the rule is 10 minutes… ya good luck with that, lol. I remember pushing for what seemed like at least an hour. My heavy taught the platoon how to perfect a rack, and a knowledge class while myself and 3 other recruits where pushin till we puked. Ya Drill Instructors sometimes forget about the recruits that are receiving IT …but most the time their right their with you motovating you to not give up, lol… Good times good times.
Boot camp is one big mental hurdle, don’t let the head games get to you and you will be fine. Have fun at boot, it will be one of your best and most memorable moments in the Corps, for awhile it will be all you talk about… Hehe.

You don’t run five miles in boot camp. You start off at about 1.5 miles then work your way up to three miles.

Read here for some good boot camp info.

I have twins sons (20 yo) who are both Marines and they both said that it was the most brutal thing they have ever done in their lives. They didn’t really give details, though. Sorry. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!
