I’ve heard about 15% drop out from Recruit Training. Is this true? What are the criteria for being failed by a Drill Instructor (ex: poor atheltic ability, etc.)? As long as I don’t give up and try to do my best, shouldn’t I be able to pass with no problem?

MCBCS RESPONSE:
I could write an entire, all ecompassing answer, but all of it has already been published in an awesome EBook, that is can be available for FREE for Amazon.com Prime members.  I could try to answer your question but that answer is really 125 pages long and is too long for a simple reply.  Check out the link below to see the book for yourself.
Take the doubt out and just prepare for Marine Corps boot camp!

    According to the Marine Corps

    On average,

10% of the males fail, boot
18% of the females fail boot

The three biggest reasons recruits fail boot in order are :

    Medical reasons, including injuries
Previously undisclosed physical or mental conditions
    Other performance-related issues.

Depends on if your best is good enough. Would you want someone that is supposed to be watching your back to tell you after you got shot "i did my best" or to cover your a$$.

  • Josh:

dont give up, have a big heart and give it your all and be strong mentally and you should be fine. good luck

Its very easy to fail…if you want to. I dont think you know what your body is capable of…and thats what the training is for. If you go in thinking you will fail, you most likely will. Go in knowing you will do the best you can. Its an attitude.

You wouldn’t want to join until you are able to do the amount of pull ups, sit-ups and push ups that the Marine Recruiter says you need to be able to do the day you go to recruit training. If your level of fitness is too low they will put you in a workout platoon for up to 21 days. Then you would start boot camp. So your boot camp would be 16 weeks rather than 13 weeks.

If you are not motivated enough to train on your own and get fit for boot camp then you are not ready for the Marines.

I would think you should be able to run 3 miles in about 24 minutes. Do 50 push ups in two minutes (75 would be better), 50 sit ups in two minutes, the more the better. And be able to do three pull ups.

Yeah, that 15% figure is correct, for the army anyways, I don’t know about marine boot camp. To get kicked out you’ve gotta be a pretty big sh*t bag. Usually people that have a real problem with authority and taking orders. Dumbs stuff too like stealing from the px, or another recruit. Not being able to pass a PT test also, if you’re really out of shape, I don’t know why they’d even consider the military, but there’ll be plent of those guys there. Also some people try to get out of training by riding sick call or faking an injury, they usually just get recycled though and get to do it all over.
Like one of the other guys said, it all depends on how good your best is, some people best, just plain sucks. If you can pass a pt test before you go, you’ll be alright. Just keep your mouth shut and do what your told. Thats what I did and I turned out alright.

My nephew, graduated last Oct 06, said no one could fail recruit training. if you can shoot a gun you will make it. he’s been in almost a year and tells me the Marines are not the place to be. College would have been a better choice.

Just be able to do pull-ups, push-ups, crunches and running. It mainly depends on you and how much heart you have. Other than that, if you plan on going into infantry then you’ll realize that boot camp isn’t anything. If you want to be something other than infantry….well, let’s just say it will be comparitively the hardest thing that you’ll ever do in your life. So, my advice go hard…go 0300.

You got the idea. Show "em you’re trying and you’re doing your best, you’ll be fine.
    Cop an attitude, you’re doomed.

I’ve seen those that you think, "WTF are they doing here" end up doing real well because they would not quit. I’ve seen those who think they were real basassss in tears because they talk but but show little.

As long as you know 1+1=3, you will be okay.

  • mannyfresh311:

You cant. they will keep you until you pass. I had a guy in my platoon that took a year to pass instead of 3 months because he could do three Marine Corps Pull Ups and i don’t mean the ones you get a jump start on, but a dead hang for 5 seconds then begin.
