I have been preparing an ebook for almost 2 years that covers much of what is required to be learned while in Marine Corps boot camp.  The book has been a labor of love because of all the junk products I have seen all over the Internet.  This book is well over 135 pages and is full of vital information needed to help you excel, as a recruit.

This book is so much more than just about exercise…it is about the emotions and academics as well as the physical portion of boot camp.  If you think boot camp is all about just being physically fit….you are in for a rude awakening.

If you are interested in getting the book downloaded straight to your computer, then follow any of the links and you will be directed to another URL and simply follow instructions on how to download the ebook immediately.  It is quite simple and painless. You could start studying it in the next 5 minutes from right where you are sitting!!! It will be yours to keep!

I will warn you that you may be overwhelmed by seeing so much information at one time.  When you get it, relax and then just dive in!  It easy an easy read, but will takes weeks to absorb all the material.

Going into the Marines?

My days as a Private on Parris Island

Chances are you have found this page because you are an above average young American that is ready to be part of something bigger than the mundane and ho-hum world you are living in now.  Most young people that join The Corps are just like you because they have hopes and dreams and a desire for more than the job handing burgers over the counter everyday.  If you are ready to try and become a Marine let me be one of the first to welcome you into a very small and unique organization.

Before you can ever call yourself a Marine you must complete the rite of passage known to all as Marine Corps boot camp.  Unless you get past boot camp, you will never be able to call your self one of the few and the proud.  The Corps has a long standing history of being the toughest fighting organization ever to grace the face of the Earth.  What you are getting ready to try and do is something that will set you on a path that will alter you forever.

The event called Marine Corps basic training is a game changer that will mold you into something and it all begins at either MCRD Parris Island, or MCRD San Diego.  I will not bullshit you by telling you the eBook I have crafted has secrets, or will unlock the mysteries because that is not what I put together and for the sake of honesty….does not exist.  There are no secrets of the Drill Instructors and there are no mysteries that take place in recruit training.

The entire purpose of this book was to present you, the reader with as much information of what to expect as possible. It was my goal to take my love for America and my love for my Corps, and create an all in one place for readers to get the information needed to complete Marine Corps Boot Camp.  I will admit I spent more time on this project than my wife was happy about, but she understood because she understands me and my love affair with the Marine Corps.

If you are looking to prepare for Marine Corps book camp I can proudly say that the book I have created is the best, most comprehensive publication available in the world today  Nobody, no organization has taken the time, effort or care to present the information of how to complete Marine Corps boot camp as I have done.

You may think that boot camp is ALL about running and jumping and getting yelled at, but there is so much more going on all around a recruit that is just not noticed, absorbed or even learned.  This book is not a book that will help you simply graduate from Marine Corps boot camp, it is a book designed to help you EXCEL at Marine Corps boot camp.My Parris Island Graduation Photograph

In the book there are extensive discussions about the exercise that is done, but there is much, much more discussed about how the Drill Instructors are trained to train a recruit.  A Drill Instructor is NOT some mindless machine running around yelling at recruits for 13 weeks and somehow a recruit is transformed magically into a Marine.  It simply just does not work that way.

A Drill Instructor is a highly trained Marine with the singular goal of taking a group of no-nothing civilians and teaching them and mentoring them and honing them into basically trained Marines.  A Drill Instructor spends MONTHS training to be a Drill Instructor and my book helps to shed some light on what you will be up against in Marine Corps boot camp.

The entire premise of the book is quite simple and the entire goal of the book is equally simply.  This book was designed to provide the reader with as much information about Marine Corps boot camp as possible.  In essence, this book will never be finished, or completed as I am always revising it and tweaking it as I also grow in knowledge.  I am very much interested in hearing and taking advice from successful readers and implementing it into the book.

The concept is simply….KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!  By reading the narratives and absorbing the academics the reader will be propelled into understanding what is going on and what is coming soon.  The book deflates the fear of the unknown by making much of boot camp common knowledge.  It goes over aspects of so much more than just the physical preparation.  This book goes into emotional preparation and provides a great deal of academic material that will soon be shoved into your brain housing group.  This book is an all in one source that takes much of what is needed and presents it right on your computer.

You will be able to download the book straight to your computer in the next five minutes simply by purchasing it through PayPal at the link provided.  You can use your Visa, MasterCard or any card you have.  The book is available right here, and right now.  The next move is yours and for a very small purchase price you will be well on your way to not only graduating Marine Corps boot camp, but graduating as the Honor Graduate. or at least get Meritorious PFC!

This is just the start of the book and you really will not be disappointed by what you get, if you are trying to get ready for Marine Corps boot camp!

Introduction

My name is Keith S. Quackenbush Sr. and I have created this book to help any person that desires to become a Marine and hopes to be as prepared as possible for boot camp.  I have graduated from Parris Island, South Carolina, and also went on to receive my commission as an officer.  Having successfully completed enlisted boot camp and also Marine Officer OCS, I feel very well qualified to have undertaken this task of preparing a guide to help those who want to successfully complete Marine Corps boot camp.

It was my goal, and insatiable desire, to uphold the standards of My Corps, in the preparation of this book.  I love The Corps and have nothing but respect and love for the organization.  I created this training resource after viewing what was available, and realized that it was extremely inadequate.  Too much of what I discovered available was a scam that simply wanted to extract money from the unsuspecting and hopeful future recruits.  I have created this book out of a love for Corps and Country.  It was my goal to create the ultimate resource available for anyone looking to prepare themselves for the rigors of Marine Corps boot camp.

The purpose of this book is to provide an all in one reference source for what can be expected from attending Marine Corps boot camp physically, mentally, academically and emotionally.  Although the actual experience of boot camp must be experienced to be fully understood, the goal here is to provide sufficient forethought in an attempt to deflate the initial encounter of boot camp as being 100% alien.  It is the goal of this book to help the reader familiarize themselves with all aspects of the events that will be encountered during their training as a Marine Recruit.

By simply understanding what events will be encountered, the recruit will experience a higher success rate and significantly less culture shock.  The simple fact of “knowing what is coming”, will catapult the reader to a much better experience, while living the life of a Marine Recruit.   It is my goal to help you prepare for the event of a lifetime…known as Marine Corps Boot Camp.

I would be honored to hear from those that have used this book as a positive resource, after they earned the title of United States Marine.  By hearing your input, after you graduate, I could improve the content and help even more recruits, which is the overall purpose of all I have done.

A Fellow Marine

Forward

The main goal of this entire book is to expose you to as much of what can be expected from Marine Corps boot camp because simply by knowing what is coming your way will make it easier to endure.  Reading this book, cover to cover, and by studying the academic portions will help you in a very strong intellectual and emotional way.

The knowledge you gain from this book has been presented in a way to help prevent Marine Corps boot camp from being 100% alien.  By knowing many of the things that are going on around you will give a greater chance to help the “fog” clear sooner.  By reading and understanding this book, and memorizing many key facts, your chance of excelling will be far greater than the recruit that knows nothing of what to expect.

What you may not realize is that if you have been chosen, to be eligible, to become a Marine recruit…it is an honor.  Up to 75% of all the young men and woman trying to join the military are denied acceptance.  The reasons may be many, but the common threads are either a lack of education, physical fitness (or obesity) and criminal background checks.  You will never have a greater chance of becoming a Marine than you have right now.  Second chances to enlist are very rare in The Corps, so don’t blow it!

What this book is designed to do is help prepare you for the mental, physical and emotional challenges that await you in Marine Corps boot camp.  There is little to no fluff in this book. How you use this book is up to you.  If you skim through it and only read the “cool” parts, you will have done yourself an injustice.  If you study and learn the dull and boring facts, and combine the knowledge gained with being in great physical condition, you will be preparing yourself not only for completing Marine Corps boot camp, but excelling.

Marine Corps boot camp is all about competition.  It is all about running faster than your fellow recruits.  It is about knocking them down in pugil stick training.  It is about your platoon being the best in drill competition.  Marine Corps boot camp is all about competition and by you applying what is taught in this book, you will be simply starting that competition earlier than most.  By starting that competition earlier, you will be able to concentrate on helping your fellow recruits… and that will identify you as a leader.

Leadership is what the Marines are looking for and that is what can propel you into not only graduating as a meritorious PFC, but as the honor graduate.

Read this book.  Study this book.  Train hard physically, in the very precise manner covered in this book. Re-read this book… and then master the contents.

If you do all of that, the only thing left to do is get it done, and graduate with honors!

What to expect

The one thing you can expect while in Marine Corps boot camp is that it will be nothing like you have ever experienced before in your life.  As silly as it may sound, you need to expect the unexpected..  You will have never worked so hard on any one goal ever before in your life.  You will also be yelled at more than you have ever been yelled at in your life.  For three solid months your entire life will be focused on the single task of becoming a United States Marine.

As you well know, you can expect to be yelled at over and over again while in boot camp.   (No surprises or revelations there huh?)  You will have Drill Instructors in your face, and all around you, treating you like crap many of the days you will be a recruit.  You will never be fast enough.  You will never be good enough.  The first compliment you get will be at The Eagle, Globe and Anchor Ceremony which is held right after the Crucible and right before you graduate.  We will discuss the Crucible in great deal later, but that is the culminating training event in Marine Corps boot camp.

While all this is going on you will be alone and separated far from the world you left behind. You will be isolated from everyone in your life that you knew the day before you stood on the yellow footprints.  There will be nobody to whine about it that cares, essentially you will need to bond with your fellow recruits, or you will have a very difficult time while in recruit training.

You will be exhausted for much of your time spent in boot camp.  You will soon realize that the most important training evolutions are designed to get you exhausted so you can be evaluated under pressure.  When you arrive onto a recruit depot it will seem as if the first day will never end and it will seem the same way during the crucible.  In boot camp, exhaustion is built into the program, so be ready for the experience.  You will have long days and many short nights.  Just for your understanding…you will be guaranteed eight hours of sleep almost each and every night while in recruit training.  You can read the exceptions as outlined later in this book, in the section Rights of Recruits.  (Yes, you will have rights)

You will be stressed.  You will never be able to get it done right, or fast enough.  Stress is part of life in boot camp and learning to deal with it is just another part of the overall training program.  By learning what is presented in this book, much of that stress will be reduced by negating the need to be under the time constraints everyone else is dealing with.

Expect to get sick, or otherwise expect to contract what is known as the “recruit crud” because it is very common.  There are many people that are coming and going from boot camp, and they are from all over the country.  They are from far and wide and each of them (just like you) brings with them a mix of germs and bacteria.  The germs that are present are from recruits coming and going, and it difficult for your immune system to be able to defend against so many different strains of infection.  The majority of the illnesses are experienced at the start of training, so it is strongly suggested you get as much sleep as possible while flying and busing into boot camp.  Show up rested because you will not get much sleep for the first two days.  Being rested is the best way to fend off illnesses.  (Your Mom was right after all!)………

Overview of a Marine Corps Recruit Depot

Marine Corps Recruit Depots (MCRDs) Parris Island and San Diego are the only two locations that conduct recruit training.  These two bases are where the training transforms civilians into recruits and then into Marines.  The transformation occurs through a thorough indoctrination in Marine Corps history, customs and traditions, and by imbuing recruits with the mental, moral, and physical foundation needed for successful service to Corps and Country.  Please note that part of the process of becoming a Marine is being transformed from civilian to recruit and not just from civilian to Marine.  It is a subtle, yet essential difference to understand.

The training program that is used on either MCRD is virtually identical in content and doctrine.  The only things that vary are what cannot be controlled, such as terrain, weather and climate.  Since those are the areas that cannot be controlled, there has been a system devised to ensure that the weather is dealt with by standards that are identical to either base.

The Corps wants to ensure that the recruits are dealt with in a safe and controlled environment, when experiencing the “wild card” that everyday weather presents to the ever present training schedule.  Since weather is unpredictable, The Corps has devised a system to deal with the weather.

The Corps wants to ensure that the recruits are dealt with in a safe and controlled environment, when experiencing the “wild card” that everyday weather presents to the ever present training schedule.  Since weather is unpredictable, The Corps has devised a system to deal with the weather in a way that both recruit depots use on a daily basis…………

Arriving On a MCRD

All recruits that arrive on a MCRD will obviously vary in age, but we can make a generalization that the ages will vary based on the time of year attended.  For the most part, the summer months will contain younger and less mature recruits that have just graduated from High School, with some will be as young as 17.  During the winter months the ages increase somewhat and the recruits are generally more mature.  The younger recruits are more receptive to the Drill Instructors, but are known for whining more.  The older recruits tend to not be as receptive to the techniques of training.   Whatever age you will be when you arrive on the MCRD you can leave your age, and your attitude, at the gate because the training will occur with little regard for age or prior civilian status.  You can be assured that the discipline of boot camp will be dispensed equally to all.

How you arrive on the base is very important to the first events you will experience when you get off the bus.  Your goal is to be un-noticed and that means in all you do, wear and say.  You should not wear anything that would attract attention to yourself.  Plan on wearing plain jeans, with a belt, a solid colored tee shirt, without any logo or words displayed.  Wear white socks with tennis shoes and leave all jewelry at home, other than religious or a wedding ring.  If you bring a wallet, keep as little cash as possible and only have an official form of I.D. (ie: drivers license) while leaving all credit cards at home, other than the one you have set up for direct deposit..  Do not bring love letters or books or anything else.  Bring nothing means just that…BRING NOTHING!!!  All will be simply discovered during the initial search and discarded as trash.

It is during receiving that you will get your uniforms and surrender your civilian clothing, which occurs the very first day upon your arrival ion base.  It is during this time that male recruits will receive the notorious first haircut.  It does not matter how long, or short, your hair is when you arrive.  All male recruits will get their heads shaved.  Female recruits do not get their heads shaved, but they will attend a class and adhere to the female Marine standards. ………………..

 Understanding The Training Schedule

Before we even discuss the basics of the recruit training schedule you need to realize that despite all of what you are about to read, life as a recruit is primarily divided into three phases of training.  With all of the information that will be covered below, the one thing a recruit’s daily life will revolve around is what phase of training they are executing at any given day.

The day to day activities of a recruit get blurred because of the relentless pace of events and training evolutions that are going on every moment of every day.  The one focus of the entire time spent on a recruit depot, as a recruit, will be based around the phase of training you are in, and what phase you hope to get to next.  Below is a simple explanation to help you understand what to expect from each of the three phases of training.

Phase I: Basic learning; physical and mental
Phase II: Rifle training
Phase III: Field training

Phase I
While in 1st Phase you will be like a scared rabbit being tossed and turned by the relentless verbal commands of the Drill Instructors.  This will be the most difficult phase because this is where your entire existence gets turned on its head.  Everything experienced will be new and very alien.  1st Phase does not begin when you step off the bus.  The almighty training schedule really only begins 2 days AFTER you meet your assigned Drill Instructors.  Phase I of training does not include receiving and processing although they must be endured to actually arrive at “The Moment” in time when you meet your assigned Drill Instructors.  Phase I of training actually starts the Monday following the Friday you meet your Drill Instructors.  You will meet your assigned Drill Instructors on what is referred to as “Black Friday” and then you will endure two “F” days (Forming Days), prior to actually starting Phase I…………………

Quick excerpts from the 130 + pages….

All arrivals will be administered a drug test and if you have any fears of failing, you need to be warned that there is a ZERO tolerance for failing a drug test.  If you have used an illegal drug, or even the new legal spice drugs, you need to fear that failure will be imminent, if done within the last 30 days.  When in processing, a failed piss test is an instant trip home.

The United States Marine Corps does not tolerate drug use.  A simple rule of thumb is that Marijuana lasts the longest in your body and the use of it will deposit THC into a person’s fat cells, where it will reside for up to 30 days.  The more body fat a person has, the longer THC will be detectable, up to 30 days.

In recent time there has been the introduction of synthetic marijuana or as it is more commonly called spice by those that use the stuff.  I will not tell you that you will get caught using the stuff because it is really a cat and mouse game.  Currently there is a “war” going on between military testing facilities and the chemists that are formulating the new and improved versions of spice.

Processing:  Initial Strength Test (IST)
The IST is the initial test used that evaluates the recruits’ physical capabilities upon arrival to MCRD.  Recruits who fail to achieve the minimum standards may be sent to the Physical Conditioning Platoon for remedial conditioning.  Do not confuse the IST with the final PFT, which happens on Training Day 60 (T-60).  We go into much greater detail about the PFT in a later section.

Drill Instructors: What to Expect

All Drill Instructors volunteer for Drill Instructor duty.  It is a three year tour that is one of the most intense and demanding duties for a Marine.  Marine Drill Instructors are the creams of the crop, when it comes to garrison Marines.  To become a Marine Drill Instructor the Marine will have completed Marine Drill Instructor School, which is very arduous and demanding.  To be a Marine Drill Instructor requires much more than simply being able to run around and yell and scream.  Marine Drill Instructors strive to not only make the best Marines, but to be the best Marines by giving the training 100% of themselves 100% of the time.

Never address a Drill Instructor as a D.I. because that would be disrespectful, as it can be interpreted as dumb idiot and never, ever make the mistake of thinking they are Drill Sergeants.  Drill Instructors train Marine recruits and Drill Sergeants train Army recruits.  Comparing a Marine Drill Instructor to an Army Instructor will be considered a great insult and will bring immediate wrath and consequences upon Marine recruits………………

Hey, this website is awesome. I am very interested in becoming a Marine. I’m a senior in high school and I want to enlist, but I also want to go to college. I know I am definetly enlisting after college, but do you think it is better to enlist before, during, or after college?
